A fisherman is about to launch his new trawler and wants to make it an occasion for his girlfriend to remember.

Security guard Aurel (Andi Vasluianu) and his wife Irene have a moderately happy marriage and a moderately comfortable lifestyle in urban Romania. Irene takes a working trip to Cairo and returns invigorated with the swell of success. She sets out again and never returns. What follows is both predictable and unpredictable. Aurel, and the audience, are suspicious of the official explanation of her death so the foundation is laid for the traditional who-dunnit. Aurel proceeds on an emotional search against all odds.

Irene is a single mother who works in a photocopying business. She lives with Santiago, her seven year old son, and her controlling mother Dinia. Then she meets Diego. They go out, she gets drunk, and the failed date triggers in Irene a crisis concerning her sexuality, her motherhood, and the relationship with her mother.

Description of Irene, a modern, free-spirited girl with a good job as press secretary for a film company. Nevertheless, she finds it difficult to get a grip on her life. She has grown distant from her husband, but for her daughter's sake she does not want to divorce him. Her lover Ebbe, a controversial journalist, is closer to her, but his violent infatuation can also be too much of a good thing. In a series of casual erotic relationships, Irene does not find what she is looking for either.

In the wake of a divorce, Thelma now lives alone with her teenage daughter Irene. Somewhat overwhelmed by the situation (and initially often hiding in bed), the two women embark on new experiences. The contours of new identities and a firmer footing as individuals gradually emerge.
